Ingredients

For the Cake:

  • 3 tablespoons melted butter
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 4 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract or puree
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk

For the Buttermilk Sauce:

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup cubed butter (60 ml)
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

Prepare the Cake Batter

  1. In a large bowl, beat the melted butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  3. Stir in the vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually combine dry ingredients with the wet mixture, alternating with buttermilk. Begin and end with dry ingredients.
  6. Mix gently until just combined to maintain a soft texture.

Bake the Cake

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease a 10-inch pan or bundt pan.
  3. Pour batter evenly into the pan.
  4. Bake for 55 to 70 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  5. Let the cake cool for 10 minutes before removing.
